ARCS Motivational Model

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaThis wiki is designed by keeping the ARCS Motivational Model in mind. This model is a problem solving model that is applicable to learning in the digital age. By using this model, teachers will notice that their student's motivation for learning will increase. This in turn will allow the student to acquire new skills. I believe that this model should be incorporated into all reading lessons!

*Attention*

It is important to keep the attention of your students so that they do not get bored. A great way to ensure that this does not happen is to incorporate digital media into the curriculum.

"Digital media has the ability to capture the attention of the learner because it addresses a variety of learning styles." (Integrating Technology and Digital Media in the Classroom, 2010, p. 23)

*Relevance*

It is important to keep the content that is being taught relevant to the students. This will motivate them to learn.

By using digital media to develop lesson concepts, teaching brings familiar technology into the classroom." (Integrating Technology and Digital Media in the Classroom, 2010, p. 24)

*Challenge/Confidence*

It is important to challenge your students because once they achieve a challenging goal they feel like they have accomplished something meaningful.

"Lessons created with digital media allow students to develop confidence by enabling them to succeed."(Integrating Technology and Digital Media in the Classroom, 2010, p. 24)

*Satisfaction/Success*

It is important to keep the attention of your students to feel like they have succeeded. Once again, if students succeed after a challenging task, they feel great about themselves.

"Technology provides opportunities for students to use newly acquired knowledge of skills in stimulate settings successfully." (Integrating Technology and Digital Media in the Classroom, 2010, p. 24)

Incorporate digital media into reading and you will see your students motivational levels increase.
